Day Three: St. Thomas

Everyone had different excursions planned so we scattered and made plans to meet up later at dinner. Adam, Sarah and I headed for Coral World.

First we jumped in a cab and headed across the island

At Coral World (next to Coki beach) we found that our Snuba adventure was overbooked, so we had a couple hours to wait. I was glad for the time. There were a lot of native creatures to get to know. Adam got friendly with one of the MANY iguanas roaming the island. They were as numerous as pigeons at the park with signs posted "Do not feed the iguanas".

We got to see some marine life,

Feed the stingrays,

the lorikeets,

the sharks,

and meet a resident sea lion.

Then off to the SNUBA adventure!! It was one of my favorite things to do. (Sadly, I had to put all my stuff in a locker while we were getting instruction and swimming so I don't have any pictures.)

A cross between Scuba and Snorkeling, SNUBA doesn't require any certifications, and is easy to do. With a mask and a regulator we could stay under the water for up to an hour. The regulator was connected to a 30 foot hose and our oxygen supply that floated above us in a small raft. Our guide then took us on an underwater tour of a reef where we found a lot of fish, brittle stars, octopus, crabs, urchins and other critters. It was so much fun!

The one big adventure for me was as I was sitting on a ladder in the water putting my fins on, my legs started to itch. When I climbed down into the water they really started to sting! I couldn't figure out why and didn't have a lot of time to worry about it as I was trying to get my mask on and figure out the regulator. After our underwater adventure I climbed out and the backs of my legs had huge welts on them and were really hurting! I'm not sure what I sat on or what rubbed against me, but it was not a nice critter. I still have some big red welts that haven't gone away!

The cute rabbit that greeted us that evening...
